You've known both of them longer than I have. Is there any particular strategy you recommend?

[Martin has seen what Jon can do, and also what it does to Jon when he hurts people. It's not entirely altruistic.]

Elias can see a lot of things, but he's not infallible. He can underestimate people. And he can be distracted if there's too much going on.

With Jon... I don't know. I mean, we could get Elias locked up in prison. That worked.

That did actually happen once before. His being imprisoned. He had blackmailed Jon into a sort of unofficial contract and was eventually taken into custody when the authorities found out.

He also promptly disappeared entirely.

It might be difficult to engineer his arrest a second time but we can always keep our ears open.

I suppose it's really a matter of not allowing him to gain any more power over Jon, isn't it?

Yes. Jon mentioned something about that. That he'd taken advantage of Agnes too.

Should have known he'd somehow avoid actually being punished.

We need to keep him away from Jon altogether. He's not- nothing he does is good for Jon.

I suspect some of that will be keeping JON away from HIM as well, won't it?

I wonder if it might be helpful to separately come to him with concerns about the issue......though I can also just see him getting grumpy and defensive about it.

He knows my feelings about Elias. I mean, at home we were sort of on a quest to kill him.

Still, I suppose I meant reminding him that if he goes to Elias willingly, he's not just hurting himself.

Yeah. I mean he did literally end the world. Maybe killing him will help.

Reminders are a good idea. He knows things can't go well if he's around Elias. Or he should.

I don't suppose you have any pointers on getting him to try?

Not really. I usually had to drag him out to get lunch, or take him cups of tea.

He was a bit better when we were in Scotland. I think because for a little bit of time there wasn't anything he felt like he had to fix or solve.

I appreciate that he has the urge to do good. I just wish his guilt didn't push him to give so much of himself away.

Wish I could take him on a holiday somewhere. No stress. No responsibilities, real or imagined. Just mundane things.
